Daily Recap 3/31/08

Well ladies and gentlemen, we’ve started another week off with a Logan-less bang

But all in all, there was a lot to be positive about today. I’m going to use a Johnny Depp movie as my inspiration for today’s recap: Nick of Time

Let’s begin with the priceless scenes of Spinelli following Sonny all over town (on Jason’s orders) dressed in a trench-coat and black fedora. Yup, incognito is the word of the day for Spinelli, he trips, he falls, he spills orange soda, he hides under benches, it’s hysterical. And just in the nic of time, before the joke can be worn too thin, Sonny catches "The Jackal" and sends him packing

Next, we see Dr. Doom and Mr. Craig plotting Sonny’s demise on the docks, per Claudia’s request. It seems Jerry has moral qualms about killing Sonny due to Jax’s marriage to Carly. Where were these brotherly feelings when Jerry blew up the MetroCourt and held Carly at gunpoint?

Oh well, the point is, Jerry has developed a conscious just in the nic of time to avoid the upcoming catastrophe and amp up his seduction of Alexis. J-Lex have a conversation on the docks about their “relationship”, Alexis insists she’s done with bad boys, and proves her point by allowing Jerry to stick his tongue in her mouth.

I have to say that they’ve moved slowly enough here, (the word "glacial" comes to mind) that I may start to buy this pairing in spite of the obvious impediments

Ric has returned full force to his evil roots, just in the nic of time to cause some real damage to the citizens of PC in an attempt to destroy his father by getting Anthony Zacchara released from the psych-prison. Anyone else think this is not going to go as Ric hopes? Show of hands?

Trevor visits the mental hospital at AZ’s request and tells Anthony there’s no way he (Trevor) can get him released, you can see Anthony’s wheels turning. Something tells me Trevor’s about to be toast

Carly insists that Kate hire Lulu as her assistant. Kate out-right refuses, but Jax prompts Lulu to demonstrate her knowledge about marketing in the nic of time, and Kate is forced to acquiesce and have two assistants. The rest of the episode is Maxie and Lulu sniping at each other while Kate acts like a witch. I wish they wouldn’t contaminate Lulu by forcing her to share scenes with Maxie.

Everything Scrubs was warm and funny and down-right adorable today   Patrick comes in and finds Robin crying because she can’t find a teddy bear she had when she was a kid - she wants to give it to the “muffin”. Great interaction between the two of them, culminating when Patrick satisfies a craving by bringing Robin ribs. It’s just in the nic of time as Robin chows down hungrily, wiping her face with her hand as Patrick watches in horror/adoration simply fabulous.

Sonny is visiting Michael at Carly’s house for a heart to heart. They have a great conversation about family and love and what makes a “man”. Touching, sweet, tender, and you guessed it – Sonny is being father of the year just in the nic of time. (For those who are spoiler free, you’ll get that joke later)

Finally, at the risk of being run out of town on a rail, I will say that softening Claudia the last few days is working for me. If this continues, I may have less hate for her in the not-so-distant future

PREVIEWS: Maxie and Lulu are fighting and Johnny and Luke are bonding at the Q’s, so I should have lots to recap for Tuesday. Is there a movie called Destroying Luke Spencer?

Daily Recap 3/28/08

I am going to dedicate today’s recap to pairs of characters who were acting Dumb and Dumber

Let’s begin with Sonny and Ric who are finally pairing up to take down the "big, bad" Trevor. When Trevor walks in and finds them plotting, neither Dumb nor Dumber think to deny it Way to telegraph your punches boys! Actually, I am semi-looking forward to finally seeing Ric and Sonny work toward a common purpose, it should be interesting.

Next move on to: Jerry and Alexis having drinks at the Metrocourt – she thinks he needs her for business, he really just wanted a date. Somehow, in the confusion, Alexis admits her attraction to Jerry. I’ll let you make up your own minds who’s Dumb and Dumber here – the DA who’s falling for the morally-bankrupt sociopath that kills people, or the morally-bankrupt sociopath who thinks bedding the DA is a good way to stay above the law

Actually, anything that gives NLG a storyline is okay in my book, no matter how ludicrous it is

More of Carly trying to talk Lulu into working for Kate Howard. Maxie walks in and starts bragging about how she already had the job and it’s just the stairway to bigger things. And just like that, Carly turns on the reverse psychology and Lulu walks right into her trap, agreeing to the position. - dumb

Speaking of Dumber, Johnny walks in during the Carly/Lulu exchange and warns Carly that Michael was acting all “mini-mobster” when he pulled him out of the cannery. Johnny advises Carly to tell Michael “not to go down that road, that there are other ways to live his life”. Dude! - do they not have mirrors in Castle Dracula? Because Johnny should really try looking in one!

Jax and Kate discuss her new magazine (zzz) Jax wants to be a part of it - WTF? He’s a billionaire financier and he doesn’t have something, anything else worth his time? Anyhoo — Kate calls some fancy designer who tries to back out of a lay-out deal they’d made previously. Dumb and Dumber play good cop-bad cop until their objectives are reached (oh, and Maxie helps too)

Claudia has the dumb idea that Jason should kill Trevor for her. After he refuses, Claudia gets the dumber idea that Ian and Jerry should do it instead. For crying out loud, someone ice him already, the build-up is maddening.

Sonny and Jason have a much-needed pow-wow about the state of their organization and the events of the last few months. It’s male bonding at it’s best as Sonny (almost) apologizes and Jason (almost) accepts it. They discuss business, yada, yada, yada (insert your own dumb and dumber joke here)

Jason is off to Seattle again to have a second surgery on his hands. He has the dumb idea of assigning Spinelli to tail (follow) Sonny while he’s away to keep an eye on things. Dumber? — the yoga outfit Spinelli was wearing (complete with headband) when he walked into the penthouse.

I am so in love with Bradford Anderson

The denouement comes when Ric visits Anthony Zacchara in the mental hospital and offers to spring him for help dispatching Trevor. Yup, Ric’s gonna get both dumb and dumber on this one, for thinking it’s a good idea to release the guy who stabbed him with a sword at the B&W ball. Hey Ric - why don’t you ask a pack of ravenous dingos to babysit for Molly while you're at it?

I am looking forward to the return of Anthony Zacchara however. I found him highly entertaining at the B&W ball. Maybe he’ll have more scenes with Luke?

Well, that’s it for this week.

Daily Recaps 3/27/08

I’m going to entitle today’s recap Much Ado About Nothing. Shakespeare would probably turn in his grave, but I’m relatively certain he doesn’t keep track of soap opera message boards from the great beyond, so I shall proceed.

Let’s start with Tracy, still making much ado about Luke and “hooker” Claudia from yesterday. Tracy wants Luke back out on the streets. Alice comes to his defense, threatening the Quartermaines with a “staff walk-out” if Luke is evicted. It seems that Luke plays poker on Thursday nights with the staff, and they love him for it. Edward is amusingly jealous over this ritual. Luke assures Tracy that “it’s been weeks...months...many months” since he was unfaithful to her.

Move on to Jason and Carly arguing – she wants to know why he doesn’t trust her anymore. You’d think this would be a heavy conversation much overdue about Michael and guns, but instead it develops into a Liz-hate diatribe with Carly painting herself as the poster-woman for honesty

Jax interrupts Jarly – CarJax decide to wait before trying to conceive again, Carly thinks Jax is making much ado over the violence that surrounds them, but wisely does not push the issue at this time.

Sonny walks in on Kate and Claudia trading verbal barbs. Claudia informs them that she set Sonny up from that first night that he met her. Sonny insists to Kate this is all much ado about nothing - Claudia was only an itch he scratched, once, his heart belongs to Kate  (don’t care, still)

Nadine follows Nikolas, asking him why he continues to act like he has a future, when clearly he doesn’t without the brain surgery. Nikolas accuses her of making much ado of a topic that is none of her concern. He is especially irritated after Nadine brings this up to Liz, Robin, and Patrick. If Nik keeps this up much longer, I am seriously going to start rooting for the tumor

I was thoroughly prepared for much hoopla when Logan appeared on my screen, alas it was much ado about nothing. Lulu is visiting Logan at the hospital in a blink and you missed it 60-second clip. They are cute and charming together until Johnny walks in. Lulu ignores Logan’s offer that she talk to Johnny, but her face clearly shows the desire to do so

It gets far worse when Lulu visits Carly and the subject of Johnny comes up. Lulu relates to Carly her feelings regarding her two suitors. This leads to the rather disturbing revelation that Johnny's violent outburst got Lulu’s motor running (I guess that’s not just Claudia afterall)

Ric and Marianna have it out regarding Trevor. She comes clean, but Ric makes much ado over being duped. He tries to buy her off and she leaves tearfully. Thanks the heavens, the end of Borianna has come

Claudia stops by Jason’s penthouse and has quite the amusing little exchange with Spinelli while Jason chuckles. Spinelli makes much ado of her “overtly threatening and sexually aggressive” persona, thus the nickname of Vixenella. If you can stomach Claudia – go ahead and watch, Bradford is a hoot

Vixenella wants to continue her discussion with Jason regarding “offing” Trevor. Much ado has been made of Claudia’s considerable “assets”, however I found Claudia enjoyable in this scene, perhaps because she played it straight, no boob-shaking or double-entendres. Or, it could have been that she was instigating Trevor’s demise, to which I am most amenable, in any case I found it watch-able.

In the denouement, Ric visits Sonny with a proposition – it turns out their life-long hatred has all been much ado about nothing – Trevor is the real bad guy here, they should work together to bring him down (cue evil music as Trevor walks in).
