When I heard that Jonathan Jackson had decided not to renew his contract with General Hospital I assumed what 99% of the still-viewing audience probably did (all twenty of us) - - that he'd had enough of this crap. Au contraire, Jackson was willing to stay in Port Charles, TPTB just flat-out refused to accommodate his completely reasonable requests.
Seriously? Lucky Spencer is such an integral part of the canvas that you can't allow the actor to work a lighter schedule, so you'd rather do without the character entirely?
What the what? Please explain this logic to me, and use small words.
The powers that be can accommodate Anthony Geary's summer vacation every year (in spite of the fact that most viewers have come to despise Luke Spencer based on recent characterization and history re-writing), but they can't write a story for Lucky that doesn't involve Jonathan Jackson grieving 24/7? I mean, eventually the writers will run out of people to kill in Lucky's life, things almost have to look up purely by circumstance alone.
Apparently lighter work-weeks, fewer big stories, AND less tragedy were all suggested as possible options by Jackson and TPTB wouldn't agree to ANY of those concessions? To keep a popular, Emmy-winning actor on their show?
Oh for crying out loud. Who exactly is making these dumb-ass decisions?
That was a rhetorical question, it's the same numskull who let Bob Guza run the show into the ground for the past decade.
Oh, and apparently there's not even going to be an exit story, Lucky Spencer is just going to abandon his kids (one of whom is deathly ill) and wander off the canvas.
Uneffingbelievable!
I'm going to boldly predict right now that all those references to Laura recently are simply red herrings intended to pique audience interest, because there is NO way that Genie Francis would return to this insanity. Especially not when the folks in charge have their heads so far up their own rectums they can't make a casting decision that most people would consider to be a "no-brainer".
The Titanic is sinking, are we not even bothering to bale anymore?
