Since Garin Wolf took over duties as head writer of General Hospital (approximately eight air-days ago, but who's counting?) I have noticed a huge change in my own daily routine. Rather than coming home from work, walking the dogs, eating dinner, scooping the litterbox, taking a shower and then briefly considering watching General Hospital before deciding that sleep is the preferable option, I have actually been watching General Hospital first!
This change in routine may not sit well with my neglected four-legged children, but I myself am really excited to be really excited about General Hospital again. We're still in the honeymoon-phase of course, Garin and I, where everything is shiny and new, but that doesn't change the fact that most of what I see on-screen is really encouraging.
I'm loving the re-emergence of the Quartermaines and ELQ, keep that up (if Michael and Abby need to be involved, that's a concession I can live with). I'd forgotten how much I truly enjoy Edward and Tracy being all Quartermaine-y. I'm also enjoying Anthony Zacchara's pursuit of Tracy (I'm as surprised as anyone).
Jason and Sam setting boundaries with Carly was so made of awesome that I almost devoted an entire column to it, before deciding that it was simply too fabulous to dissect and better enjoyed without over-analysis.
Lulu and Dante dropping their bordello adventures and heading home - - good plan.
I LOVED Tuesday's Lucky and Liz alleyway high-as-a-kite scenes from an acting perspective, and if Jonathan Jackson and Rebecca Herbst continue to knock the material out of the park this way, I could eventually be down for LnL2 reunion #56.
Personally, I could do without the whole "Robin is a color-coding nazi" storyline, but I'm thinking that maybe Wolf will be shifting that particular story rather than dropping it completely, which is fine, because I want to see Scrubs front and center at the hospital whenever possible.
I also have concerns about Jax's impending return. If they vilify him with a kidnapping-storyline, I am going to be truly annoyed, but that's a personal-preference issue and not necessarily a problem with the writing, so I'll just have to wait and see how it plays out.
My absolute favorite part of Wednesday's show this week? - - Carly and Shawn.
No one is more surprised than me, but the man actually makes Carly tolerable and he is the only one who does right now (maybe because for once, she actually seems to be listening to someone else talk?). I could do without Shawn's Jax-bashing of course, but the guy is new in town, I'll forgive him for not being aware of Carly's destructive history. It appeals to me that the conversations between Carly and Shawn seem to be taking place on equal-footing, whereas Carly steam-rolls over everyone else most of the time.
I mentioned this once before while Guza was in-charge, and nothing ever came of it. Now that Garin Wolf is running the show, I hope viewers will see some more of Shawn's calming influence on Carly . . . . and also his smokin' guns - -
I'm just saying, give the audience what they want.
Garin Wolf is definitely off to a good start on that front. If he keeps it up, this bitchy blogger might be forced to find herself another hobby.
None would be happier than I.
