At the risk of speaking too soon and then being bitterly disappointed later, I'm going to go out on a limb and say - - the writers of General Hospital appear to be getting better at levity. Several times within the last few months I have found myself praising individual scenes or even entire episodes for their component of fun.
It's unusual for me and for General Hospital, and I find myself cautiously optimistic because the last episode I enjoyed as much as today's Spixie non-wedding, was the carnival kick-off, and we all know how that ended. Although, I don't think Daddy Z would send gunmen to Jake's to end the butchering of Foreigner, so I'm probably safe in giving the non-wedding reception a positive review.
Spinelli and Maxie's non-vows were great - - they could have been cloying and awkward, but somehow they were perfect - - perfect for the couple I wish Spixie would be
, rather than the couple Guza has been writing them into for last nine months, but I digress - - today was a good Spixie day - - all of the couples' charm with very little of their annoyances (she did break-out the essential person nonsense again, though).
Mac fainting - - flipping priceless.
It was over the top and ridiculous, as was his drunk and disorderly at Jake's, but John J. York is charming and surprisingly good at comedy (given they never write for that side of Mac) and he sold the performance and had me laughing out loud on several occasions.
Bringing sexy back today - - Johnny kissing Olivia's shoulder during the non-wedding, and Jason tying his regrettably pink necktie seductively around Sam's neck.
The whole family was at Jake's - - I even found Ethan downright likable
as he showed Molly, Morgan and Kristina how to cheat at cards, and it gave Alexis a chance to be over-protective and neurotic, which I love about her (she reminds me of me in that way).
Robin and Patrick
and their smokin' and decidedly not-boring married chemistry were on display in the paltry screentime they had today - yay!
Kate arrived looking fabulous, was supportive of Maxie, behaved in a classy manner
and generally made me wish they writers hadn't bungled and then trashed her potentially awesome character in the first place. I also wish they weren't bringing her back now as a plot-point to excel the "Dominic is Dante"- reveal and then disappear again until the next time the writers need a scapegoat for a botched story
, but I digress, I was in the middle of being positive. I loved Kate's line to Alexis regarding the bouquet-toss - - Alexis: This is a horrible little tradition, why are we doing this? Kate: Because we're single, and we're fabulous and we have good taste and high standards, now stay here.
Johnny and Olivia confess their mutual love - - awwww.
Mac and Alexis - - when are they going to pair these two?
Seriously? Mac needs Molly and Kristina as newly adopted daughters to give him more gray hair now that Maxie is a somewhat-well-adjusted member of society.
Dante and Lulu in the alley - - sweet, flirty, romantic ". . . .love lasts until you're old and gray, and it shows up when you least expect it" and then they danced.
That is what viewers watch soaps for - -romantic idealism, not shoot-outs.
I literally have no complaint, today was great.
